From November 10 to 16, the Schwarzman Scholars delegation from Tsinghua University conducted a series of activities in Ningxia. Comprising 19 youth representatives from different countries including the U.S., the delegation gained insights into Ningxia’s development regarding specialty industries, rural revitalization, desertification prevention and control, and the integration of agriculture, culture and tourism.
During their stay, the Ningxia Foreign Affairs Office (NXFAO) arranged for the delegation to engage in comprehensive field studies across Yinchuan City, Zhongwei City, and other localities. Visits were made to Ningxia Wolfberry Biological and Food Engineering Company, CHINALCO Ningxia Group, Yuanshi Vineyard, KOCEL Company, Ningxia Saishang Dairy Company, Zhongken Tianning Animal Husbandry Company, and Jiayang PV Energy Base. These firsthand experiences allowed them a closer look at Ningxia’s wine, goji, animal husbandry, dairy, and new energy sectors, while engaging the delegation in in-depth discussions with professionals and corporate representatives about the achievements and potentials of Ningxia’s industries amidst evolving circumstances, technologies, and opportunities. The delegation also visited the Minning New Image Exhibition Center, Hemei E-commerce Workshop, and Shapotou Nature Reserve, where they witnessed the metamorphosis of Minning Town under west-east pairing-up collaboration model, the integrated five-belt system for windbreak and sand control (namely the sand fixation and fireproof belt, the irrigation and afforestation belt, the grass barrier and vegetation belt, the frontier sand deterrence belt, and the sand enclosure and grass cultivation belt), as well as the actions propelling the combination of culture and tourism.
This visit is in alignment with President Xi Jinping’s initiative, announced during his trip to the U.S. last year, to welcome 50,000 young people to China for exchanges over the next five years. By orchestrating a rich itinerary, the NXFAO aims to present Ningxia’s development to the global youth group, contributing to its endeavors in international youth exchanges.
