On December 10, 2023, the Promotion of Ningxia’s Wine Culture and Tourism was held in New York and Ningxia’s history, culture, landscapes, and wines from the eastern foot of the Helan Mountains were promoted there. Huang Ping, Consul General of China in New York, Bai Yuzhen, Director-General of the Ningxia Foreign Affairs Office, and Elizabeth Chin, Executive Director of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) New York Chapter, delivered speeches at the promotion. Li Shipeng, Deputy Consul General of China in New York, Ma Yunfei, Director of China National Tourism Office in New York, Zhang Jinping, President of the Sino-American Friendship Association, and Fred S. Teng, President of the America China Public Affairs Institute, were present along with over 100 representatives from the tourism, business, media, and overseas Chinese communities in eastern United States.
During the promotion, the promotional film Incredible Ningxia: An Oasis in the Hinterland was played. Bai Yuzhen introduced Ningxia to the participants, showcasing its remarkable achievements in economic and social development and its good momentum of opening up and external cooperation. She said that next year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the US. Ningxia is willing to take this promotion as an opportunity to actively implement the important consensus reached at the China-US summit in San Francisco, and stands ready to work with friends from the US to deepen practical cooperation, strengthen people-to-people ties and promote youth exchanges, so as to create a brighter future through shared opportunities and contribute to the China-US relations.
Huang Ping, Consul General of China in New York, expressed that Ningxia, known as an Oasis in the Hinterland, is an important point along the Silk Road and a treasure land in western China. He hoped that this promotion would allow the attendees to get a vivid picture of a promising Ningxia, and through Ningxia, gain a deeper understanding of an open, confident, and inclusive China. This would further promote sub-national exchanges and cooperation between China and the US, contributing to the realization of San Francisco vision. Elizabeth Chin, Executive Director of the PATA New York, said that this promotion presented a feast that allows people in the US to obtain a better understanding of Ningxia’s history, culture and wine industry. She looked forward to deepening friendship and working together to promote Ningxia’s culture, cuisine, and fine wine worldwide.
Cai Ju, Director-General of the Ningxia Culture and Tourism Department, introduced the cultural and tourism resources of Ningxia, highlighting three unique elements: the Yellow River, the linear world cultural heritage of the Great Wall, and the Wine Culture and Tourism Corridor at the Helan Mountains. She sincerely invited friends from the US to visit Ningxia and experience its charms. Chen Zijun, Deputy Director-General of the Administrative Committee of Ningxia (Helan Mountains’ Eastern Foot) Wine Industry Park, introduced the development of the wine industry in Ningxia from five aspects, namely the history and culture, Ningxia’s terroir, grape cultivation, wine making, and international exchanges.
The promotion also introduced Ningxia’s competitiveness in modern agriculture and showcased the twenty-one scenes of Ningxia. The attendees tasted the wines from the eastern foot of the Helan Mountains and showed great interest in Ningxia’s wine, tourism, culture and other specialty industries. They had in-depth exchanges with the delegation from Ningxia, expecting more dynamic exchanges and fruitful results in industrial cooperation between Ningxia and localities of the US.
