On June 9, medical supplies donated by the People’s Government of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region to Casanare Department of Colombia started delivery in Yinchuan, which include 15,000 disposable medical masks, 1,000 N95 masks and 500 disposable protective suits. The supplies will be sent to Colombia with the help of the Embassy of Colombia in China, assisting Casanare with its COVID-19 containment measures. This is Ningxia’s first donation of medical supplies to a friendly region in Latin America.

Ningxia and Casanare signed the Letter of Intent on the Establishment of Friendly Relationship in September, 2018. Being highly complementary in animal husbandry and rice cultivation, the two sides enjoy great potential for further cooperation. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread in Latin America, Casanare now faces increasingly severe challenges with the shortage of medical supplies. Given this, Ningxia coordinated medical supplies and provided assistance to Casanare to the best of its ability, which embodies profound friendship between the two sides and their determination in fighting the virus with joined efforts. 

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Colombia. The donation will not only enhance the friendly relations between the two sides, but also lay a solid foundation for Ningxia to promote cooperation and exchanges with countries in Latin America.
